Important Information

The ultimate Skellig michael experience

This trip takes aproximately 5 hours in total, allowing for passage to and from the Rock, and 2.5 hours on the Rock.

Please arrive at least 20 minutes before departure.

The departure time for the Skellig Michael Landing Cruise changes weekly due to sea conditions, and landing time slots with departures usually between 08:00am and noon, or sometimes even later if weather conditions dictate.

You will be notified of your allocated departure time the day before by phone/email. We must be able to contact you by phone the day before your trip to advise you of our departure time, failure to do so can result in your trip being cancelled. It is advisable to plan to stay close to Portmagee/Valentia the night before, as departure times sometimes change at the last minute due to weather conditions.

Health & Safety

You, and everyone in your group must watch the OPW Safety Video before embarking.

• Sturdy footwear, with good grip and ankle support is essential. Flip Flops / Sliders / Strappy Sandals / any kind of heel, are not suitable footwear for a boat. If you do not have the appropriate footwear and attire passage will be refused, and there will be no refund.

Please ensure you have sufficient Food and Drink, there are no facilities to purchase anything once you depart from the marina. It is essential to stay well hydrated, this is a challenging day out, both at sea and on the Rock.

• This trip can be challenging on days, we are heading out 6 miles into the Atlantic, and the Skellig is a steep climb of over 600 rugged rocky steps

• You must have a very good level of fitness, if you suffer from any kind of Heart conditions, respiratory conditions such as asthma, vertigo or other balance problems, then you should consult your doctor before booking this tour.

• This trip is not suitable for children under the age of 12.

• The sea conditions can change fast, and if you are not used to boats seasickness is a possibility, we do not provide seasickness tablets, and if you think you may need these, please check with your pharmacist or doctor if you have any medical issues to make sure that you can

What to bring with you

Sturdy, appropriate footwear with ankle support.

Warm clothing, a rain jacket.

A sunhat, and sunscreen.

Seasick tablets, if in any doubt about your ability to take these, or are on any kind of medication, please confer with your doctor or pharmacist.

The Guide Service on the Rock

  • The Guide Service on the rock is provided by the OPW
  • The guides’ function is primarily to protect the monument and to interpret the site’s significance.
  • The guides do not escort visitors up and down the access routes.
  • The guides are the official monitors on the island and their instructions, particularly in relation to safety, must be complied with at all times.

Cancellations

Cancellations must be made 7 days before booking to get a full refund.

If we have to cancel a trip due to weather or any other reason, a full refund will be given.

There is a rota system for the boats allowed to land at the Skelligs, therefore the times vary weekly, and we will need to contact you closer to the time with your sailing time.

Customers must provide a phone number that they will be contactable on, as sea conditions, and departure times can change daily, and we must be able to contact you the day before departure.

Attendance must be confirmed by phone, no later that 12 hours before departure, or this may result in cancellation of your trip.

We reserve the right to change the departure time, and every effort will be made to contact you asap with these changes.
